Diana, a Ghanaian based in the UK, shared her journey to the UK and how she perceived life abroad before leaving Ghana.
Speaking on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Diana mentioned that she believed living abroad was the highest point attainable in life. She believed it was easy to succeed abroad, and often rebuked her friends and family abroad for not supporting her financially.
“In my mind, I thought living abroad was the peak of life. I thought you could get everything you want within months. I used to think Ghanaians abroad were stingy because I believed they could easily afford to help.
A friend returned from the UK to set up a business in Ghana, but I thought she was just lazy. She told me how tough it was to stay here, but I thought it was all lies. I didn’t understand it until I got here.”
According to Diana, she experienced the difficulties her friend mentioned within a week. She said,” I started regretting it in the first week. It began with the person who promised to host me. I wanted to return to Ghana, but my flight ticket was one-way.”
