Young Ghanaian Fridaus Forson recounted her stay in Egypt and revealed the maltreatment young Ghanaian girls through at the hands of their Egyptian employers and the agents who brought them.
Fridaus revealed that her agent promised a GHS4000 job in Egypt. However, she was subjected to working long hours without pay. Her monthly stipends are given to the agent to settle the $5000 cost of coming to Egypt. Whenever Fridaus complained, she was threatened and sometimes physically abused to the point that she could not work.
The young lady pleaded with SVTV Africa for support to return to Ghana because her life was in danger, especially after her first interview. Through SVTV Africa, Fridaus returned to Ghana safely on February 4, 2024.
“My life was already in danger, but after the agent heard I had done the interview, it got worse. I couldn’t go out until I left for the airport. Other people advised me to be careful because they heard the agent was looking for me. The agent was planning to take my life because I stopped paying her.
Five girls were arrested just before I left Egypt. Many have died in Egypt. Some madams (employers) poison the workers, and the agents beat them up because of the money they charge. Others are also suffering in prison with no food to eat,” she told DJ Nyaami.
