Sarah Anane is a female but with a full beard. She shares the challenges and discrimination she faces as a woman with a full beard.
Speaking on SVTV Africa with DJ Nyaami, Sarah revealed that some people call her a witch, and men were scared of approaching her because they feared she possessed manly features. According to Sarah, she feared leaving her house at some point and cried about it.
“In the beginning, I cried about it often. I couldn’t attend weddings or anything of the sort, but I’ve got used to it. I don’t care what people have to say about it anymore. I’m comfortable with myself now.
Some men were afraid of me. They thought I was as strong as a man. It wasn’t easy, especially growing up, but I overcame it.”
Miss Anane added that the comments became worse after I joined social media. However, the comments did not deter her from living her life.
Hirsutism, which causes excessive facial hair growth in females, is typically caused by an increase in hormones called androgens. It is common and affects about 5 to 10 per cent of women (Healthline).
