Bismark Opoku, a Ghanaian living in the US, has stated that Africans who often advise locals against travelling abroad are ungrateful, adding that many only share the disadvantages of living in a foreign country.
Bismark, in a previous interview on SVTV Africa, mentioned that he would choose America over his wife or mother because of the benefits he received when he fell ill. He made these statements in response to how America has affected his life and revealed in a recent interview on the same platform that Ghanaian Americans complaining are ungrateful.
“The government has been supporting me since I woke up from a coma, and I can survive on that even if I wasn’t working. The system here is working. You can only complain about America if you don’t have documents. Those who have permits and still complaining are ungrateful.
Look at our mothers in Ghana working for hours in the sea. The youths are working as NSS personnel without pay. Nurses in Ghana demonstrate before they are paid. Some of my nursing colleagues have been jobless since 2014. You complain about stress in the US, and you work three jobs. You applied for the jobs yourself,” he told DJ Nyaami.
Bismark indicated that many only complain about the negative side of living in the US and hide the benefits they get from living here. He said, “Most Ghanaians and Africans who work multiple jobs cause stress on themselves.”
