Ghanaian lady Joyce stated that she is ashamed that she had to return to Ghana empty-handed after working a year in Egypt and revealed that she was deported from Egypt after almost two months in jail.
In an interview with DJ Nyaami on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Joyce revealed that she was unemployed for three months after arriving in the country. Eventually, she landed a job as a house help that paid GHS1500 monthly. However, her agent informed her that she would earn $500 (GHS6200) monthly.
“He told me about the $5000 debt I’d pay him for bringing me to Egypt. The plan was to give him $300 a month and keep the rest, but my pay was $150 monthly, so I had to give it all to him. I worked ten months to pay him.
I went to him for money for my upkeep, and he gave me EGP500. I was arrested on my way to the Ghana embassy. I was there for one month and two weeks. We couldn’t bathe, so imagine how it will be for women during their periods.”
Responding to what she brought from Egypt, Joyce noted that she feels ashamed of having to return from abroad empty-handed and expressed her regrets for travelling to Egypt.
“My family in Ghana had to send money for someone to buy this outfit for me to come with. I don’t know how I’ll go back to Kumasi right now. In my year in Egypt, I wasn’t able to send even one Cedi to my children. It’s shameful and sad to have returned empty-handed.”
SVTV Africa Foundation supported Joyce with GHS1000 for her trip back to her city, Kumasi.
