Francisca, a Ghanaian lady, has returned to Ghana with the support of the SVTV Africa Foundation after a year in Egypt.
In a chat on SVTV Africa with DJ Nyaami, Francisca revealed she had worked in Saudi Arabia and Lebanon as a house help before moving to Egypt. According to Francisca, the agent about the monthly pay and also sold her upon her arrival in Egypt.
“I was in Lebanon for three years before going to Egypt. The agent said I could make $200 to $500 monthly in Egypt. He told me about the $4000 debt I’d pay, but he made it seem easy to settle because of the pay he mentioned. I was sold to another agent in Egypt.
There was no written contract like in Saudi Arabia or Lebanon. I paid $2800 to the agent and stopped after he failed to get me a working visa. I was stuck at work for six months because I feared getting arrested by the Egypt immigration,” she said on Daily Hustle Worldwide.
Francisca mentioned that foreign nationals in Egypt have been notified to leave the country or face a jail term. She said,” I had to leave. My life is important. I worked for over a year, but I couldn’t save. I gave all that I made to the agent. I won’t travel again.”
