Greece-based Ghanaian Kofi Agyei disclosed that he was arrested by Turkey immigration eight times before crossing to Greece.
In a chat on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Kofi Agyei mentioned that he lived and worked in Turkey for years but was arrested eight times due to immigration issues. As a result, Kofi decided to cross the Aegean Sea on an inflatable boat to Greece.
“I had applied for their permit, but they denied the request. A friend was arrested while in town and brought the police to the house. He had left his permit at home. They asked for our documents and arrested me. I was sent to a faraway camp.
I was in the car for three days. I thought they were going to kill us. I returned to Istanbul three days later, and I was arrested again. It happened eight times. I had to leave the country,” he recounted.
Kofi Agyei crossed the Aegean Sea to Greece at the height of the Covid 19 pandemic. He mentioned that it was the riskiest trip, but he had to embark on it for his survival.
“The Turkey immigration chased us on the sea because the boat captain was wanted for taking people across to Greece. So he had to escape from them. We almost died. The Greece rescuers had to rescue us.”
