UK-based Ghanaian Emmanuel Wilson shared his travel journey from the Netherlands to the UK, where he slept at a train station for four months.
In an interview on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Mr Wilson revealed that he sold his house and car after losing his job and left for the Netherlands for greener pastures. However, he remained jobless for two years and eventually moved to the UK after a friend’s advice.
“My wife and I were divorced at the time. So, I made provisions for my kids before I sold the house and car. I left for Holland in 2002 but I was jobless for two years due to the language barrier. I met someone through a friend who promised to host me in the UK and even bought a bus ticket for me.
I called him when I arrived in the UK, but he refused to pick me up because his in-law was in town. I slept at the train station for four months. I ran out of money. I put on all my clothes and slept on the benches there,” he recounted.
Mr Wilson’s host called after four months and finally brought him. He mentioned that the host kept him locked in the room for three weeks when he went to work. According to Mr Wilson, he has not achieved anything in his 22 years abroad. Emmanuel is yet to complete a house in Ghana as a replacement for the house he sold to travel abroad.
