Comfort Adu, a Ghanaian lady based in Egypt, disclosed that she was deceived into going to Egypt for a good-paying job but has been jobless for over a year and was eventually sold to another agent because she is not fluent in English.

In a chat on SVTV AFRICA, Comfort mentioned that she got a job when she arrived but could not keep it due to the language barrier. It was tough for her agent to get him a job, and she was eventually rendered homeless and had no food.

“The first day I arrived, I heard from the other ladies that it would be difficult to get a job if I could not speak English. So I asked my agent, but he denied it. A week later, I got a job, but I had to quit because they didn’t provide meals,” she said.

Eventually, Comfort’s agent sold her off to another, claiming it was a training process for her next job. Comfort’s passport was seized, and she had to pay $2000 to get it back.

“He told me she would teach me English and train me for my next job. I asked whether he was going to sell me because I heard that is what they do here. He denied it. The lady confirmed that he owed her, and I was to work and pay off that debt,” she recounted.

According to Comfort, the agent charged her GHS35,000 to Egypt and promised a GHS4000 job monthly in Egypt. However, she has worked for over a year.
