Godwin Billy, a Ugandan based in the UK, revealed that he never considered leaving Uganda, but when he had to take the opportunity to study abroad.
In an SVTV International interview, DJ Billy, as he is popularly known, mentioned that he would have kept his relatively good-paying job in Uganda if he knew how life was in the UK.
“Traveling to the UK was not part of my to-do list. It has never been part of my plans. I had a very good job. I was earning not a lot of money, but I was happy. I got an opportunity to study here and maybe go back for a better position. I loved it back home, and I didn’t lack anything. I came here to progress education-wise,” he told host, DJ Nyaami.
Speaking on his first experience and culture shock in the UK, DJ Billy said,” The first day you arrive, someone leaves you with a six-month-old and says, ‘My babysitter is coming, but can you look after this child.’ I came to study, so why am I looking after a six-month-old baby?”
Moreover, Godwin mentioned time management and having to find a job as part of the difficult moments in the UK. He expressed the difficulty in getting a job after his course in Business Administration. He advised others to study in-demand courses.
