Patricia Afrane, a Ghanaian based in Egypt, disclosed that she left behind her five-month-old baby to travel to Australia but later found out she was headed for Egypt instead.
Speaking on SVTV Africa, Patricia revealed how an agent lied about sponsoring her trip to Australia to work and pay back the cost. Patrica found out her destination was Egypt a few days before her departure and could not retreat because she made some financial commitments.
“I had a cesarean section delivery five months before I came here. I left the baby with my mother. I always had a desire to travel, but I never expected to end up in Egypt.
My mother convinced me to go when we found out I was going to Egypt. The agent also assured me of good pay and told me it would take a few months to pay the cost. He told me I’d be paid 3000 Egyptian pounds. So I agreed.”
After arriving in Egypt, Patricia mentioned that the agent took her passport and charged her $4000. She told host DJ Nyaami that she regretted her decision and would return to Ghana even if it meant coming empty-handed.
“I’m suffering here. I can’t work long hours because of the c-section I had. The agent takes all my pay. I begged her to give me half to send to my mother, but she refused. I’d have to complete the payment first,” she said on Daily Hustle Worldwide.
