Victoria Agyiri, a Ghanaian based in Egypt, disclosed that an agent told her about a ‘connection’ to the USA but discovered a week before her departure that she was headed for Egypt instead.

According to Victoria, she could not back out because he had promised her a good job in Egypt. In an interview on SVTV Africa with DJ Nyaami, Victoria revealed that the agent charged her $45,000 upon arrival in Egypt and gave her two years to pay up.

“She found a cleaning job for me, but I couldn’t do it because that was not the job he promised to get for me. So I told him I wanted to return to Ghana, but he had taken my passport and would not allow me to leave until I paid.

I’ve tried to get help from Ghanaians here, but the agent tells them I agreed on it before coming. I make ₵2300 monthly, but I have to $47,000 before I return. I’m tired, I can’t stay anymore. They treat me like a slave,” she explained.

Additionally, Victoria stated that she wasn’t in a hurry to travel overseas. She owned an eatery. Victoria indicated that she trusted the agent because they had a mutual friend and had no idea she was going to Egypt. Otherwise, she would not have abandoned her business for Egypt.
