Naomi Emma Ametefe, a Ghanaian lady living in the UAE, disclosed that she became vulnerable at a point in her life and resorted to marriage for protection.
In an SVTV Africa with DJ Nyaami, Naomi revealed that she became a rape victim at a young age after her mother’s demise. Naomi believed the marriage would be a sort of protection and also have a sense of family.
“After the rape incident, I travelled to my village for treatment and returned to Accra later. I got married because I thought my husband would protect me and cater for me. Also, I could build my own family because I didn’t have a mother or family, but the marriage did not help.”
During their five-year marriage, Naomi revealed that she suffered verbal and emotional abuse. She said, “My ex-husband was the stingiest man I had ever met. He gave me GHS5 a day and told me that my housegirl job did not pay enough for him to give me more.
My ex-husband told me that he regretted marrying me and that he should have married a rich girl instead of me. My second pregnancy was triplets, but I lost two because of hunger and stress.”
