Eunice Nyarkoa, a Ghanaian based in Germany, believes that the citizens’ low expectations of elected leaders lead to a lack of accountability.
In a chat on SVTV Africa, Eunice indicated that many Ghanaians would rather believe in a supernatural being to solve their worldly issues than to keep their elected leaders in check. She added that the youth must set their priorities right and fight for the country.
“Even with our leaders, we don’t expect anything from them. That’s why they give us anything, but we expect them to just be there. Someone will tell you they are trying, but they need to deliver. The problem is Ghanaians don’t set priorities.
We believe in a God up there who will bless you. A destiny-changing God. How do you expect such a person to fight for their destiny when there’s a destiny-changing God? So they’ll have someone to blame when they fail in life. They won’t accept responsibility.”
Moreover, Miss Nyarkoa added that, unlike Ghanaians, the Germans do not pray before leaving for work because of the road system. She advised the youths to avoid conservations that divide Ghanaian citizens into tribes and hold the government accountable.
“The leaders are the gods in our lives. We are not holding them accountable. Instead of holding them accountable for the bad roads, we rather pray because December is coming, and the witches will suck blood through accidents,” she told DJ Nyaami.
