US-based Ghanaian Joseph Gagla revealed that he left his home because of the constant abuse from his African-American wife.
In an interview on SVTV Africa with DJ Nyaami, Joseph mentioned that he met his wife on Facebook and eventually joined her in the US. However, a year later, she began abusing him physically.
“I don’t know whether it was insecurities. She put me through mental, physical and financial abuse. She would even complain that I was studying too much, but I wanted to get a certificate to support her. I was working and supporting her when needed. I never took her money, but she tried to stop me from supporting my family.
I gave her a gold ring for our wedding, but she complained that she wanted a diamond ring instead. I cooked and cleaned, but at a point, she wanted me to clean the bathroom too. My wife made it a point to remind me that she brought me to the US, so I shouldn’t complain.”
Besides that, Mr Gagla recounted how his wife locked him out for six hours during winter and physically abused him. After several attempts at resolving their differences, Joseph left the house.
“She and her 16-year-old son ganged up on me. I reported the case, but I didn’t want her arrested. I just left the house with the help of the police. So we’ve been separated since then.”
