Ghanaian woman Naa Oblitey struggled to survive after returning to Ghana from studying in the UK.
In a chat on SVTV Africa with DJ Nyaami, Mrs Oblitey mentioned that she got a scholarship to study at the University of Coventry but never planned on staying upon completion.
“Leaving abroad has never been my plan. I left after my visa ended. I wasn’t planning on staying in London. I knew a few people who wanted to stay, but I felt that I could contribute much to Ghana.
I got the scholarship from Getfund. They give you the money and leave you out there. They didn’t bother to bring us back to Ghana to serve the country,” she said.
Mrs Oblitey mentioned that she started in Ghana as a church administrator and eventually as a Human Resource Manager for a Microfinance company in Accra.
Responding to whether she regretted leaving the UK, Nana said,” No, I had no regrets. I feel that I could do better in Ghana. I want to contribute to Ghana’s development if I’m given the chance.”
However, she ended up travelling to the US to join her husband. According to Naa, she had to quit her business to live with her husband, which was a big sacrifice.
