A Ghanaian based in Libya Gabriel Yeboah, stated that it is almost impossible to cross the Mediterranean Sea from Libya to Italy because of the strict measures.
In an interview with DJ Nyaami on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Gabriel expressed his desire to return to his home country but mentioned that he cannot travel by road. According to Gabriel, the probability of getting robbed is high.
“Most of the Ghanaians here want to go back to Ghana. Living in Libya is not as it used to be. I would return right now if I could. The problem is money. I can’t come by road because I’ll get to Ghana empty-handed, and the cost of travelling by road is higher than flight.
I paid GHS6500 three years ago, but today, it costs GHS8500 to GHS9000. The flight ticket also costs GHS7000.”
In response to whether he plans to cross the sea to Europe, Mr Yeboah disclosed that it is almost impossible because Libyan immigration has become meticulous at arresting migrants.
“Migrants don’t pass through Libya anymore. They go through Tunisia because one of three boats makes it out of the Libyan waters. The authorities will arrest them and put a 3000 Dinar fine on them,” he said on SVTV AFRICA.
