Bema Bonsu, a Ghanaian based in Turkey, stated that she is living on a time bomb in Turkey because she could be arrested and detained anytime.
In a chat on SVTV AFRICA with DJ Nyaami, Bema indicated that unregistered Africans in Turkey are being arrested and detained. According to Bema, some were arrested on their way to the airport.
“Working in Turkey now is tough. I own a salon here, but most of my African customers have either left Turkey or been arrested. They can arrest you even if you have a flight ticket in hand. Two of my Ghanaian workers have been arrested. One is still in jail, and the other is currently in Ghana.
Their immigration will not book a flight for you to return either. So if you don’t have money at that moment, you are forgotten in jail. I want to return to Ghana. I’m sending my belongings onto a cargo ship to Ghana,” she said.
It has been reported that Turkey immigration is on a mission to hunt down and deport undocumented immigrants. Moreover, Turkish immigration could also revoke an immigrant’s permit.
