Emmanuel Mensah, a Ghanaian living in South Africa, disclosed that he earns almost ₵13,000 in profits from his salon business.
In an interview with SVTV AFRICA, Emmanuel stated his desire to move to Canada or the US despite his monthly earnings, as it is difficult to obtain a resident permit in South Africa.
“Some make 20 rands per haircut, but I charge 60 and 150 rands because of the difference in location. I’m okay here, but I would like to move. In a month, I can make about 50,000 to 60,000 rands.
After paying rent for the shop and the workers, I could have about 20,000 rands ($12,875). The problem is that it is not easy to get a permanent residency in South Africa even if you have a child with a South African woman,” he told DJ Nyaami.
Speaking about working in South Africa as a foreigner, Emmanuel mentioned that it is safe depending on the location of the business.
“South Africa is not safe for foreigners, but it depends on where you live. The areas that suffer violence are where there are few foreigners, but it is safer if you live among foreigners,” he added.
