Brazil-based Ghanaian John Ekow gave an account of his stowaway journey from the Ivory Coast to South America on SVTV AFRICA.
In a chat on the Daily Hustle Worldwide, John indicated that he stowed away on a ship bound for Brazil, but he thought the ship was heading for the USA. John gave an account of his trip and the offer he received after he revealed himself in Brazil.
“I was not alone. I hid in the ship with a friend. We were on board for two days, but it didn’t move. After four days on the ship, my friend had eaten all the food.
He had to drink his urine, but I couldn’t. I scooped the seawater and added a little sugar I brought with me to reduce the salt. I had stomachaches, but I endured.”
According to John, they could not keep up with the hunger and thirst and gave themselves to the ship’s crew after a week of hiding.
“They gave us food, and we took a shower. The caption asked if we knew where the ship was heading. I told him we thought it was going to the US, but they told us it was Brazil. The captain offered us $3000 each to return to Africa, but I rejected it,” he recounted.
John added that the ship captain dropped them off discreetly and gave them money for a night at a hotel. John and his friend continued their journey from there.
