UK-based Ghanaian Shiela Tutu indicated that her stepfather tried to have sexual intercourse with her at 18, but she could not communicate with her mother about it because she did not feel loved.
In an SVTV AFRICA interview with DJ Nyaami, Shiela revealed that she left her mother’s house to start life alone. Shiela grew up in Ghana and later joined her mother in the Netherlands as a teenager. As a result, they had very little connection, and they could not bridge the gap until years after she moved out.
“My mom was very strict, and I wanted to return to dad in Ghana. I eventually moved to the UK to study and never returned. The Netherlands was a hustle field for me because I didn’t have the motherly (love). I left home at 18. I put my clothes in a trash bag and left my bags in my room.
She was too strict. My stepfather also moved into the house and started making funny moves, but I couldn’t tell my mom because we didn’t have that relationship. So I had to leave.”
Miss Tutu shared more about how she lived in the Netherlands before leaving for the UK. According to Shiela, she later understood her mother and has a good relationship with her now.
She decided to stay in the UK after completing her tertiary education because of the opportunities and did not want to return to the Netherlands.
