Germany-based Ghanaian Edwin Gyamfi stated that his decision to financially support his family in Ghana after he arrived in Germany was the biggest mistake of his life.
Speaking on SVTV AFRICA with DJ NYAAMI, Edwin revealed that he regretted not investing in himself but securing loans to sponsor his cousins’ trio to Europe because most betrayed him later.
“I often tell the youths coming here not to repeat the mistakes I made. When I came here, I didn’t fully settle into the system, but I carried my family’s problems into my head. I took loans to help some of them. I spent a lot of money to bring my cousins to Europe, but they showed me it was my choice and they wouldn’t do that.
My mother died before I traveled, and I didn’t have a wife or child. So, I decided to help the family, but they had a different mindset. By the time I realized I had wasted many years serving them, they betrayed me,” he said on Daily Hustle Worldwide.
According to Mr. Gyamfi, he traveled abroad as a teenager, and he had no direct dependants in Ghana. As a result, he catered to his extended family’s financial needs. Edwin, however, advised the youths to cater to their immediate family first and integrate into the system later.
