Germany-based Ghanaian Miriam Venson has disclosed that she is still single because her mother has put a price on her, and no man has been able to pay the fee yet.
In a chat on SVTV Africa with DJ Nyaami, Miriam revealed that her mother would demand €4,000 (GH₵49,000) from any man who expresses interest in her because she accepts their union. According to Miriam, this fee is to settle the cost of bringing her (Miriam) to Europe.
“My siblings and I left her house. We don’t stay with my mother anymore because the demands are too much. We couldn’t abide by her rules. The laws were too much. She told us to marry a rich man and that she would charge him the cost of bringing us to Germany. We disagreed with it. That’s why I am still single.
The €4000 is different from the bride price. The bride price list will come from my father, but he (the prospective husband) had to pay that amount to my mom. It doesn’t matter if he has a residence permit,” she disclosed.
Moreover, Miriam indicated that she, including her siblings, had to pay their mother after they arrived in Germany. She stated that all of her siblings remain single.
“My mother charged me €7000. She said she would not work to bring us abroad for someone else to enjoy the fruit of her labor. According to my mother, she does not want us to seem ‘cheap.’ I brought a man home once, but she kept postponing because he had not paid. So we called it quits,” Miriam added.
