Cecilia Aniwaah, a Ghanaian based in the UK, stated that she prefers a man who would assume his position as the head of the family and pay the bills and rent as the Ghanaian culture demands.
In an interview on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Cecilia mentioned that her future husband cannot force her into paying half of the rent or bills as many Ghanaian couples in the UK do. She indicated that her salary is hers alone and would only support her husband when she wants.
“For peace’s sake, I’d prefer to marry a white man because I’ve heard a lot since I came here. They (couples) share bills here, and I can’t do that. What is the man’s duty if I pay half the rent?
Yes, we are one now, but it doesn’t mean I have to support you (financially). The man is the head, and you’re not ready for marriage if you can’t do that,” she explained.
According to Cecilia, when a woman is forced to share in a man’s duty, she loses respect for her husband. She added that her money is hers alone and not for the household.
“I don’t want him to force me to pay. I’ll buy what I need for the household, but it must not be demanded. When that happens, the women lose respect and love for the men,” she added.
