Kwaku Boakye Owusu, a Ghanaian based in the US, stated that his professor advised him against returning to Ghana after his studies because it would be a waste of his talent.
In an SVTV AFRICA interview with DJ Nyaami, Kwaku Owusu indicated that he travelled abroad to study and returned to Ghana to practice but had to go back upon his return.
Kwaku mentioned that he will return to his home country because “if those of us abroad do not return, there will be no youth left. All of my schoolmates and friends have travelled out of the country.”
“Some are doctors and lawyers, but they left because the system was unfavourable. After my doctorate, I returned to Ghana to make a change, but my professor advised me. He told me living in Ghana would be a waste of talent,” he said
According to Kwaku Owusu, the youth must be given an opportunity in government positions. He encouraged Ghanaians living abroad to make a return home to help develop Ghana.
“I’m an advocate for that. Many Ghanaian doctors abroad want to return to implement what we’ve learned. Ghana is a developing country, so it must be managed by fresh minds. I’m planning on coming next year to put what I’ve learned into use,” he added.
