Stephen Sarfo, a Ghanaian in Germany, shared how he became homeless after his aunt threw him out of her house after two weeks.
Speaking with DJ Nyaami on SVTV AFRICA, Stephen indicated that he was at loggerheads with his aunt and did not speak to her for a year. Stephen was still jobless and eventually became homeless.
“You will never understand life abroad until you experience it. I slept in my aunt’s living room when I came to Germany. Two weeks later, she said she was renting a place for me.
I didn’t understand it because I was still jobless. How would I pay for the rent and bills? I became stranded in Dusseldorf for a while. I didn’t talk to them for a year. They didn’t even know where I was,” he recounted.
Stephen was advised to travel to the UK but was arrested in France and deported to Germany for having forged documents.
“I was detained at the France-UK border and detained for one month. Thankfully, I was in the German immigration system, but I was released because Germany did not come for us. So I boarded a train back to Berlin and met a Ghanaian woman who helped me become who I am today,” Stephen said.
