Mamie Meraah-Dwamena, a Ghanaian nurse based in the UK, disclosed that she decided to stay in the UK permanently after she received her first weekly salary.
In a Daily Hustle Worldwide interview, Mamie stated that she went to the UK three years ago to further her education, but has no intention of returning to Ghana to work or settle.
“I came as a student and eventually wrote an exam to work as a nurse here. I started working during COVID-19, and the money was good. Even though Trust Hospital paid me just enough it cannot be compared to what I made in a week.
I decided to stay permanently after I received my first weekly salary because it was more than my monthly salary at Trust Hospital,” she noted.
Mamie began saving towards bringing her husband and kids to join her in the UK. According to Mamie, most of her colleagues at Trust Hospital have travelled out of Ghana too.
Speaking on her purpose for settling in the UK, Mamie told DJ Nyaami, “It’s better to bring my kids here than study in Ghana because they will get jobs after graduating. You’ll pay school fees for years, and the kids become a burden later because there are jobs,” Mamie added.
