Germany-based Ghanaian Owoahene Acheampong disclosed that he made more money from his fast food business than from working in South Africa.
In a Daily Hustle Worldwide interview with DJ Nyaami, Owoahene indicated that a friend in South Africa encouraged him to come for better opportunities. However, Owoahene returned to Ghana three months later because the reality in SA was nothing like he anticipated.
“I had several branches selling fried rice in Kumasi with about 12 workers. I started thinking about travel opportunities for greener pastures and took a friend’s advice to join him in South Africa.
I left my cousin in charge of the business, but I returned to Ghana within three months because the job and payment were not what I expected.”
Speaking on family and friends’ reaction to his return to Ghana, Mr Acheampong said, “They made me feel bad about returning, but I knew my business in Ghana gave me more than what I would get in SA. I had to revive the business because I had about GHS5000 in debt.”
According to Owoahene, he eventually moved into event planning and established himself as a big shot in Kumasi. However, he travelled to Germany and decided not to return because his friends tried to sabotage the business.
