Canada-based Ghanaian Mavis Kwatemaa has revealed that her daughter (born in Canada) was shocked to see their house in Ghana and called her home in Canada a ‘chop box.’
Speaking on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Madam Kwatemaa indicated that, like many Ghanaians abroad, she and her husband were focused on building a mansion in Ghana while living in a small rented apartment in Canada.
“We’ve built two houses in Ghana now, so we have a place to stay whenever we visit. We were focused on building a house in Ghana in the beginning. Something my daughter said made us rethink our decision. We were renting in Canada at the time, so she was shocked to see the house. She called our bedroom a chop box,” she recounted.
Mavis moved from Ghana to join her parents in Canada 23 years ago. Speaking on Ghanaians abroad and the urgent need to build a house in Ghana, Mavis advised them to focus on building a comfortable life abroad first.
“The pressure from family in Ghana is too much. When an Asian travels abroad, he works for himself, but a Ghanaian has to support the whole family. It makes it difficult to focus on building a life here,” Mavis added.
