Qatar-based Ghanaian Solomon Yeboah stated that he earns over GHS11,000 ($1000) monthly as an engineer with free accommodation.
Speaking on SVTV AFRICA with DJ Nyaami, Solomon disclosed that he left Ghana after working as a ‘galamseyer’ (illegal miner)for 15 years. He paid a travel agent to Qatar on a work visa as a welder, however, the job was gardening.
“After the galamsey work, I worked as a welder for three years before I travelled. So I thought that was what I was coming to do but it was a gardening job. I read the contract and saw 900 but I thought it was in dollars until I got to Qatar. I didn’t check thoroughly because I was hungry in Ghana. There was no going back, so I stayed and now I’m an engineer,” Solomon said.
According to Solomon, he travelled with 14 others but only two stayed in Qatar. He further mentioned how he got a job as an engineer.
“I couldn’t return because there was no job for me in Ghana. I had decided not to go back to galamsey either, so I stayed. In 2018, I got another job and that’s where I was trained to become a flower engineer. I make over $1000 with free accommodation. I only pay for my food.”
