UK-based Ghanaian Nana Yaw stated that his nine years of service in the Ghana Police Service was a waste of time and added that he wished he had made this decision earlier.
In a chat on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Nana Yaw told DJ Nyaami that he travelled to the UK on study leave but eventually resigned to work in the UK. He explained that the service’s insufficient wages and lack of incentives motivated him to take this action.
“Police service in the UK is one of the most respected jobs. Some White British are often surprised when I mention that I left my job to travel to the UK, but they don’t know the conditions we had to work in. Nine years in the police service were a waste of time. I wasted my life.
I would have achieved more if I had worked abroad during those nine years. I’m not saying police officers in Ghana are wasting their time, but we are not respected in Ghana,” he noted.
Moreover, Nana Yaw mentioned that the Ghanaian government (past and current) have no regard or respect for the Police Service. He believes police officers are only needed during elections.
“UK police officers are seen as the people’s protectors and are respected accordingly. They only need us during elections for their selfish interest. That is why they take bribes because there are no incentives for them,” Nana Yaw added.
