UK-based Ghanaian Richard Kumah has revealed that he is currently jobless and planning to return to Ghana to avoid paying child maintenance.
Speaking on Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami, Richard indicated that his ex-wife has refused to allow him to see his kids but expects him to pay child support or maintenance. They got a divorce after a misunderstanding, but she does not allow him time with the kids.
As a result, Richard has decided to stay jobless to avoid paying child support because he believes it is unfair.
“I’m at home now. I don’t do anything for now. Some men even quit their jobs and return to Ghana permanently. I’m planning on coming to stay in Ghana too. I’ll only visit the UK for a few months. I’d have paid if I was allowed to see the kids. I don’t want to fight about that either,” he revealed.
According to Richard, many women in the UK intentionally divorce their husbands to receive support from the government.
“Over 80% of the women do that, especially if you have kids together. This is not only my problem, but many Ghanaian men go through this. I wasn’t abusive. She just got angry and left,” he said on SVTV AFRICA.
Child maintenance is regular, reliable financial support paid towards a child’s everyday living costs.
