UK-based Ghanaian immigration lawyer Wisdom Akaho disclosed reasons, why visit or tourist visas from Ghana to the UK, are often refused.
During a live show on SVTV AFRICA hosted by DJ Nyaami, Lawyer Wisdom identified two primary factors contributing to the decline of UK tourist visas: the devaluation of the currency and a lack of robust relationships within the country.
As per the immigration lawyer, the UK embassy requires bank statements to confirm that the candidate can support themselves while residing in the UK. Also, the applicant must prove they have close relationships or connections in Ghana to return to.
“The currency is so bad. So even if you have a huge sum in your account, they will convert the cedis into pounds under OANDA. You think it’s a lot of Ghana cedIs, but it amounts to nothing in pounds. Your monthly salary may be someone’s daily wage here. So you will be refused.
“The second reason is that we have not been able to show strong ties back home. About 98% of visit visa applications from Ghana are being refused. A few get through, but many lump everything together. It will be refused unless you can explain the source of the money and if the money is reasonably high in pounds.”
Moreover, Lawyer Wisdom also educated Ghanaians in Arab countries who wish to visas to Europe or the UK and the US on how to apply for a visit visa in the country without returning to Ghana.
