Germany-based Ghanaian Godwin Fiano revealed he said his last prayer before climbing onto the inflatable boat in Libya and added that he does not regret the journey.
In a chat on Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami, Godwin indicated that the agents told them it would take about 4 to 6 hours to meet a rescue team, but they spent 9 hours on the sea on a deflating boat.
“We were lost, and the man with the compass could not read it anymore. One side of the boat deflated, and this on that side rushed to the other side. I just said my final prayer and waited quietly. After nine hours, we saw a helicopter that directed us to the ship,” he recounted.
According to Godwin, about 120 people were packed onto the inflatable boat that ideally carries only 50 persons. Like many migrants escaping poverty and war, Godwin mentioned that he does not regret his decision to embark on that voyage.
“My grandfather and father both died in poverty. That experiences pushed me to do better for myself. I don’t regret the route to Europe because my mom would have died of a stroke if I were not in Germany. I won’t advise anyone to pass through that because the risk has increased.”
