Iraq-based Ghanaian Grace disclosed that she makes GHS2500 as a house help in Iraq which is six times more than she earned as a primary school teacher in Ghana.
Speaking on Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami, Grace indicated that she accepted the offer and paid GHS3500 to an agent because it paid more than in Ghana despite the shift in the job description.
“I chose the Iraq job because I earned GHS400 as a teacher in Ghana, and the agency offered GHS2500, which is six times more. I was sent to the agency after I arrived. The Iraqi families come and choose the lady they want to work with. Most of them prefer those who speak English,” she said.
Speaking about the nature of the job, Grace mentioned that she cleans the house and takes care of the boss’ kids. Her contract was for two years, but she recently signed another contract for one more year, which came with a salary increase.
According to Grace, she wants to save money to migrate to the US or UK. However, she acknowledged that Iraq helped her a lot.
“I want to go to the US or UK because I can make more there than in Iraq. I’m aware of all the documentation issues, but I believe it’s better than starting a business in Ghana,” she added.
