Romania-based Ghanaian Andrews Adom stated that he paid ($4000) GHS45,474 for a ($500) GHS5,684 job because it was better than his GHS650 job in Ghana.
In a chat on SVTV AFRICA with DJ Nyaami, Andrews mentioned that the job offer came with free accommodation and paid for the visa process to start. Despite the difference in salary, Andrews revealed that his time in Romania has not been pleasant.
“According to the company, they paid for our trip, but I paid $4000, including the flight ticket. We were about eight Ghanaians, and all of us complained about the salary. Paying $4000 for a $500 job was a cheat, and we pleaded for an increase, but they refused.
Five Ghanaians left for Germany and Italy. They brought in some Indians and paid them $600. The contract was for two years, but I quit after ten months,” he said.
Moreover, Andrews indicated that he accepted the Romanian job because it was better than in Ghana.
“I considered the job because my GH650 salary in Ghana was not enough. I spent that even before the month ended. So getting a job here with free accommodation was far better than in Ghana. Also, I felt it would be easier to move to a European country if I wanted,” he added.
