Canada-based Ghanaian Chris Antwi revealed that he was working in Ghana but was not getting paid.
In a chat on SVTV AFRICA with DJ Nyaami, Chris disclosed that he doubled his work hours from Ghana’s working experience when he realised how much he could make weekly.
“Even though I was working in Ghana, I wasn’t paid, but I’d be paid hourly here. I decided to work overtime. I threw myself into work, and coming home was even a struggle. I worked about 13 hours daily and over 70 hours weekly.
I was the only one here with no family, so that helped. I was excited when I got my first paycheck. I was earning CAD1000 a week. That is someone’s annual salary in Ghana. I put in less effort but make more as compared to Ghana,” he noted.
Chris advised the Ghanaian youth to travel abroad if they get the opportunity. He also spoke about the number of nurses leaving for the US and the UK, adding that the economy is pushing Ghana’s professionals to other countries.
