US-based Ghanaian Mavis Owusu has revealed that she rejected a job offer in America because the salary was less than what she earns in Vietnam.
In a chat on SVTV AFRICA with DJ Nyaami, Mavis indicated that she is comfortable in Vietnam and will never choose the UK or the US over Vietnam. Mavis added that she would not accept a job in Vietnam for less than $20 per hour.
According to Mavis, Asian countries pay teachers better than some Western and European countries. Meanwhile, the cost of living in Vietnam is cheaper than in the US.
“I’ll only accept a job in the US if it’s a professional job in a city where I can live comfortably. I interviewed for a US teaching job offer, and they offered to sponsor my trip, but their rate was lower.
It was $10 per hour. I checked the rent for a studio room in the city, which was $2500. So I declined. The least I’ll take for a teaching job here is $20 per hour. I currently teach for three hours a day for six days and make more than $20,” she noted.
Speaking on the cost of living in Vietnam, Mavis mentioned she pays $400 monthly for a two-bedroom apartment. Moreover, her utility bills are not as expensive compared to the West.
