Spain-based Ghanaian Collins Kwandoh shared his stowaway story and revealed that two of the four Ghanaians who stowed away on a ship to Spain died out of hunger and frustration.
In an interview on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Collins disclosed that he embarked on a stowaway trip to Europe for greener pastures with his friend. However, Collins and his friend were deported and made the trip again after two months.
“Four of us were on board a ship to South Africa from Ivory Coast, and two died. It took nine days, but by the sixth day, our water was finished. The two boys drank the water carelessly, so we continued the journey without food or water.
There was no way the engineer or crew members would hear us from where we hid. The boys started complaining about thirst, and one wanted to fall into the sea. They were frustrated,” he said.
According to Collins, one of the boys died on the seventh day. They asked his roommate, and said, “he’s dead. He started a fight with his roommate. The roommate bit off his ear and nose. They stayed in one room, and two of us were in another.
The other guy said he kept attacking him and killed him in defence. Later that day, the guy started hallucinating and kept close to us. When we woke up on the eighth day, he was lying in the other room dead,” he narrated.
Collins added that on the ninth day, the ship arrived in South Africa, and he and his friend were rescued half-dead.
