UK-based Ghanaian immigration lawyer, Mr Wisdom Akaho has stated that the UK already had plans of reducing legal migration and added that the Nigerian YouTuber did not cause it.

Speaking on SVTV AFRICA with DJ Nyaami, Lawyer Wisdom mentioned that the UK had plans of changing their immigration laws which allowed some international students to bring in their dependants.

A few days ago, Nigerian Youtuber, Emdee Tiamiyu granted an interview to the BBC and revealed that many Africans who go to the UK on a study visa do not actually go to study. He added that they use the study route as a ticket to enter the country.

Lawyer Wisdom however indicated that this statement is statistically false. He said, “The numbers are nothing to be compared. It was a wrong analysis for him to say they just want to enter the UK but to study.”

“As to whether he is the reason for the ban or not, I’ll say they were already thinking about it.

‘“According to statistics from the Home Office, about 136,000 visas were granted to dependants of sponsored students in the year ending December 2022, a more than eightfold increase from 16,000 in 2019.”

The Home Office has always been concerned about immigration control as such it was already in their plans to reduce the number of student dependants so the interview just gave it the green light,” he explained.

Wisdom Akaho is a solicitor with Wisemart Solicitors in. the UK. They specialise in the following areas of law; Immigration, Family, Employment, Civil Litigation and Ghanaian Customary Law.
