Germany-based Ghanaian Daniel Okoh has stated that a commercial driver is better off than 99% of Africans living abroad because they deal with more stress than an average Nigerian would.
Speaking on SVTV AFRICA with DJ Nyaami, Daniel indicated that many Africans have or are experiencing depression because of the migration from a sociable environment to a nonsocial one.
According to Daniel, he was depressed for years and described it as ‘hell.’ He said, “I got tired of the situation while in camp. I felt like my friends in Africa were doing better than me. I could see that they were better than me. I started getting depressed and losing my dreams.
Moreover, Daniel advised the youths against selling their properties to seek greener pastures. He believes even a commercial driver is better off than some people in Germany.
“99% of diasporans have depression. Those without depression are those who were born here. If you want, come and experience it. You might think you’ll be luckier, but the racism, bills, stress, and social life are the same we all experience. A man driving a ‘trotro’ is better than someone staying here.
If a driver has GHS1000, it is just his. He may only need fuel. His rent is yearly, but if you fail to pay your rent here, you’ll be homeless. We don’t know depression in Africa, but you find out when you travel. They don’t know that they are better than us,” he revealed.
