Germany-based Ghanaian Ali Sekande has shared his story of travelling through the Mediterranean Sea to Italy.
In an interview on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Ali revealed his journey from Ghana to Libya during the first civil war in 2011. He mentioned that the war began soon after he and other Ghanaians left for Tripoli. However, it made it impossible to move from one city to another.
“It was a one-day journey, but we spent three months travelling from Sabha to Tripoli. Many Ghanaians died, and my family thought I was dead too. The ‘connection man’ hid us in a bush until it was safe.
If you fall behind in the desert, you’ll be left behind. They won’t wait if you’re sick or weak. We were 53 in total, but only 27 of us made it to Tripoli,” he narrated.
After three years in Tripoli, Ali decided to leave for Europe but failed three times. Ali indicated that crossing the Mediterranean Sea to Italy was the most difficult part. Many more lost their lives.
