Belgium-based Ghanaian David Okyere has disclosed that he survived on a GHS600 salary as a father of four for years until he could travel abroad.
Speaking on Daily Hustle Worldwide, David revealed that his first time in Belgium was after winning ‘Employee of the month’ at his job. David and two other colleagues spent their one-month vacation in Belgium.
“I learned a lot from that trip. I wanted to go back, but I didn’t have the means. My salary was GHS600 in 2009. How would I fund a trip to Europe,” he quizzed.
David indicated that he eventually got a visa to Spain and made some train rides to Belgium. He shared more on the trip and described it as difficult.
Speaking of Belgium, David revealed that a friend reported him to the police to be deported for failing to settle a 100 euros debt.
Mr Okyere expressed satisfaction with his decision to leave Ghana for greener pastures. According to the father of four, he may not have attained his level of success if he stayed in Ghana.
