Netherlands-based Ghanaian, Kwame Banoh has shared a 37-year-old story of his journey to Europe from Nigeria without a passport or flight ticket.
In an interview on Daily Hustle Worldwide on SVTV AFRICA, Mr Banoh revealed that he travelled by flight to Germany in 1986 without a passport. He disclosed that at the time, security at the airport wasn’t as heavy as it is now.
According to him, all they had to do was pay a ‘connection man’ to lead them into the plane without going through immigration. Mr Banoh disclosed that they paid 350 Naira to these ’connection men.’ He lived and worked in Nigeria for years before travelling out.
“Some Ghanaians in Nigeria made contact with people at Murtala Mohammed Airport. After you pay the ’connection man,’ he’ll give you the time and date to come.
There were not many travellers at the time so the security was low. They’ll sneak you past the immigration and lead you into the plane. I did not hide. I sat on a seat comfortably but without a passport or ticket,” he narrated.
Many such people used Aeroflot; a Russian airline that flew from Nigeria to Russia and Bulgaria because of the minimum security.
