US-based Ghanaian Mohammed Alhassan has revealed that he fled from Chinese police officers by jumping from the fourth floor of his apartment.
Mohammed and his friend were admitted into a university in China but paid half of their tuition fees and expected to settle the rest later. However, they could not settle the debt and had to be sacked and eventually deported per the school’s rules.
Speaking on SVTV AFRICA with DJ Nyaami, Mohammed disclosed that they were so broke that they even ate from trash cans at some point.
“My friend spent his tuition fees on my flight ticket to China and even bought me shoes. I was the reason why he faced that challenge. I had to go to town during lectures to look for food. I applied to a school in the US for him, and he left.
One Friday evening, just as I was leaving, I heard the police cars downstairs. So I couldn’t use the gate. I had to jump from the fourth floor during winter and run towards a bus stop. I didn’t have money for a train ticket, but a lady paid for me,” he narrated.
Mohammed eventually got a job as a private tutor teaching English. Later, he married his American girlfriend and moved to the US.
