Canada-based Ghanaian Solomon Osei shared the fatal journey by foot from Argentina to America.
Many people from Asia, Africa and the Caribbean embark on this fatal journey to escape economic frustration and civil and tribal wars, among others.
In an interview on SVTV AFRICA with DJ Nyaami, Solomon revealed that he was on the road for three weeks and passed through nine countries, some on foot and others by bus to Mexico. He mentioned some horrifying encounters; armed robbery, death reminders, etc.
“We were about 16 Ghanaians. We wake up at 5 AM and set camp again at 6 or 7 PM. We didn’t go with water, so we drank from the rivers. Sometimes, you’ll find corpses in the river, but you have no option. The smugglers are around to help you cross the border, but it is not easy.”
Solomon disclosed that the harshest part of the journey was crossing the Darien Gap; a deep forest between Columbia and Panama often described as one of the world’s most dangerous migrant routes.
“We passed through nine countries before getting to Mexico. When we arrived in Mexico, we stayed there for one month and three weeks to get the documents before going to the border. We crossed the Gulf of Mexico to Texas. We held hands and walked across the ocean carrying our bags,” he narrated.
Solomon Osei revealed more about his stay in America and why he left for Canada.
