Belgium-based Ghanaian Issah Dauda has revealed that he accepted a job offer from Qatar to work as a driver for GHS450 because he just wanted to travel abroad.
Speaking on SVTV AFRICA, Issah indicated that he worked in Ghana as a satellite technician and made more than GHS450, but he accepted the offer anyway.
According to Issah, he had tried many times to get a visa, but his applications were denied. So he decided to take the risk.
“I was making enough as an installer, but I wanted to travel. That was the gut feeling I got to leave the country. So I left. It was GHS450, but the good thing was that I didn’t pay rent, utility bills or even laundry. That was in 2011. We worked 12 hours daily for six days, and I was there for four years,” he said.
Issah mentioned that he was disappointed when he arrived in Doha City. He was aware of the weather conditions in Qatar, but “the heat outside the airport was too much. I never regretted it, but the nature of the place and the environment wasn’t what I expected.”
