UAE-based Ghanaian Akwasi Boateng has disclosed that the basic salary for taxi drivers in Abu Dhabi is GHS2,400.
In a chat on SVTV AFRICA with DJ Nyaami, Akwasi mentioned that he got a direct offer from Ghana, where the company sponsored and provided accommodation for him. He indicated that he had to attend a driving school for three months for a license and a taxi permit.
“I didn’t find any challengers. The only challenge may be the street names. I had to learn about them and their locations. We also had to learn basic Arabic to communicate with the riders.”
Speaking about the salary of taxi drivers in Abu Dhabi, Mr Boateng stated that GHS2400 is the basic salary. However, some drivers make more than that in a month.
“In the beginning, two drivers will share a car, and they determine the hours, but you need to reach a target. If you hit the target, you’ll have the car for 24 hours.
We have a basic salary, and drivers earn more depending on how long they work. The basic salary is GHS2400. The only thing you buy is food. They take care of rent and everything,” he explained.
According to Kwasi Boateng, lazy people cannot work in Abu Dhabi because the job is demanding. He added that many Ghanaians leave after a while due to that.
