SVTV Africa’s DJ Nyaami shared some videos on the ‘Matter Day’ Show that highlights some parts of Philadelphia not often seen in the media.
In a short report coupled with videos from Kensington, Philadelphia, DJ Nyaami shows some of the filthiest and drug-infested areas in the USA.
The video captures drug addicts who appear homeless and live in filth. Some beg for alms while others feed from garbage cans.
In October 2022, thedp.com reported that Philadelphia’s opioid crisis has been on the rise since the pandemic.
“The number of people seeking medical treatment for opioid use disorder increased by 845% over the past three years, reported PhillyVoice. The number of positive tests for heroin increased by 44%, and by 35% for fentanyl,” the report read.
According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, Philadelphia’s top local drug threat is fentanyl, a strong synthetic opioid. The Philadelphia Department of Public Health, 1,214 overdose deaths were reported in the city throughout 2020. Fentanyl was present in 979 of them.
