Pan-Africanist, John Paul Rugaba has stated three reasons why Africa is experiencing recession despite the abundant natural resources and human labour.
In an interview on SVTV Africa, the Ugandan based in China mentioned the lack of leadership and inferiority complex as major reasons why Africa is not developing. He also indicated that the talents often migrate to the West because of inadequate opportunities on the continent.
“It’s easy to promise a lot, but when they reach there, it’s like they switch it off. I’ve seen this in many African countries. They know what and how to do it, but they don’t implement it. It affects the common person.
If you calculate how much is spent on state functions, private trips, and presidential convoys and invest that into medical care. That can improve the medical sector in one year. That is my first point.
Moreover, John Paul indicated that many Africans believe Europe is better due to the educational system “which we inherited from the colonialists.”
“A child in Africa is told that Europe is better than his place, but a child in China is told that China is the best country in the world from a young age. So you see the difference in terms of mentality and education. Someone in (Africa) will grow up wanting to leave.”
Finally, John Paul noted that these Western and European countries only see Africa as a continent to exploit. He added that these countries “including, China use our leaders, our mentality, and our resources. In the next 50 years, countries with gold will have nothing left.”
